General Discussion / Re: Hancock's addiction strategy

Surely that was the absolute flaw in the original Recovery Agenda, I've been told that nobody is interested in messing with my meds these days. I did have a 5 year battle with services which ended up with me threatining legal action though, not sure if I could go through it all again. Nobody forces people to remain maintained & if we are considered to be of a mature age surely we know what is best for us...just as other mature adults are treated. Another Torie Government will bring the country to it's knees, if we're not there already.

Possibly, as The Alliance doesn't have the R word plastered all over the forum it receives no funding at all & is currently held together with the internet's version of string & double sided sellotape, also a lot of effort from Sapph & Lopez. I've never read a post that disagrees with anyone's right to reduce & abstain from OST/opiates but get the feeling we're considered not to be " recovery orientated " enough to be worthy of funding. Saying that I've never found a forum with so much invaluable information relating to the rights of users in ( or out ) of treatment.

Concerns & Compliments / Re: Advice on holiday script

Hi Prun,
I'd love to see a review of the holiday prescribing policy. It does seem the current one is a tad too risk averse and makes it hard for service users to access well being essentials like holidays, or working away from home. Sometimes just being given the benefit of the doubt is enough to encourage long term stability and recovery.

Totally agree, treat people like responsible adults & they are more likely to act like responsible adults. Well said bighairy.

Tory minister - Matt Hancock - announces impending strategy to reduce drug-related deaths and other addiction-related harms

Could this mean time-limited OST - after all, these deceased ageing drug users often have methadone in their system  :-\

Or am I over-reading between the lines?

Optimising treatment for people is a real focus right now, and will remain so for the foreseeable future. I acknowledge the issues we, and the rest of the sector, have had around this.

I've attached a presentation recently delivered at our clinical conference which gives an insight into the approach we are taking to improve this across the whole organisation. Progress is gradual, but definitely moving in the right direction.

As always, very interested to get perspectives from this forum.

Wow reading this has taken me back a few years I never did get my holiday to sicily, but I've just been through a similar experience this year regarding a holiday to Wales for a week but thankfully they made the right desision this time and gave me a full week of amps to take away so on Monday I get a full week of peace and quiet with the family  :D
And a big thank you for everyone that helped me all them years ago

I was sorry to read your story Cobalt1974. Policies around prescriptions supporting travel need reviewing to make sure they work well for people - I know our current one is better than before, but on a quick read seems still too weighted on perceived risks vs benefits. Will ask for a review, and would welcome input from people on this forum wherever possible.

Agree OP. They have 40mg diskettes in the U.S. so why can't we have them here instead of needing a million and one 5mg physeptone tabs.

I believe the diskettes are anti IV'able as well.
